In 1933, the borough was renamed from Fairlawn to Fair Lawn.

Due to its proximity to New York City, Fair Lawn has become one of the most sought-after places for those working professionals and commuters who want more affordable small-sized homes for sale in New Jersey. The town is well-connected to New York City by railroad and has two prominent stations, Radburn and Broadway.
